Salario mínimo y Empleo. Un análisis para Colombia, Ecuador y Perú, usando técnicas de cointegración

Abstract

El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar el efecto del incremento del salario mínimo en el empleo en Colombia, Ecuador y Perú (1990 -2018). Utilizando datos de la CEPAL y del Banco Central de cada uno de los países y técnicas de cointegración de series temporales. Encontramos evidencia de que existe una relación tanto en el largo y corto plazo entre el nivel de empleo y los salarios mínimos. Además, que no existe causalidad desde los salarios mínimos hacia el nivel de empleo, lo que nos lleva a concluir que en los países de estudio se cumple la teoría de Stiglitz (2018), que afirma que subir el salario mínimo tienen un impacto “insignificante o incluso positivo” en el nivel de empleo. Una investigación política derivada de esta investigación es que cuando se fije el salario mínimo de los países se lo realice en torno a la situación económica del país, tomado como referencia los indicadores económicos de estos para tener salarios equilibrados acorde a la estructura productiva de cada uno de los países.
