Abstract

Abstract Nowadays, decision support systems are essential in the management of any organization. CIMEX Corporation, one of the Cuban trading enterprises, has a wide experience in the development of computer solutions that over the years has evolved in response to experts and managers informational requirements. Different business areas – such as trade, economic and human resources – have been historically managed by independent applications, making the conciliation between the particular results and the widespread information analysis difficult. This paper outlines the main milestones of knowledge management progression in the company from a computational point of view. Furthermore, a projected solution based on an extension and enrichment of current data warehouse is exposed. Built-in analytical functionalities have been implemented over the tabular model, provided by Microsoft SQ Server that is supported on columnar storage and in-memory database technologies. In addition, the proper version is provided to control the business performance based on main key performance indicators, enabling the creation of custom-made dashboards for each of the enterprises which facilitate the design, execution and control of tactical and strategic plans. Finally, a first approach of data mining process is applied to predict critical behaviour measurements.
