Retailers’ Struggling to Adapt to the Changing Consumer

Abstract

Recent research reconfirmed retailers’ struggling to continuously improve the retail shopping experience in brick and mortar stores, balancing the brick and mortar and online presences, including considering the contribution of the click-and-collect services. There is no doubt about retailers’ need of better understanding consumer shopping decisions by learning the difference between macro and micro journeys. Going beyond “Amazonification of Commerce”, it is worth taking a look at Amazon’s valid plans for the future, Walmart’s Omni channel push, the expansion of the D2C retail, and merchandising’s approach within the significant “Idea to Doorstep” process suggested by FitForCommerce, considering the lessons to learn.
