Abstract

In the present article, we raise the question of the identity of the University of National World Economy and, in particular, whether it can be defined as a business university. The university traditions in education and scientific research are briefly traced. We establish that since the establishment of the Free University to present day, despite all its transformations, the university has characteristics that significantly exceed the concept of a business university. In addition to containing elements of a business university, many theoretical disciplines are also taught at the UNWE, specialties that have nothing to do with business education are studied, and in a number of established businessoriented specialties the leading role is played by the scientific development of theory and methodology, as well as regulation with the aim of improving existing regulations and creating new applied models and practices. These features are also evident from the solid scientific and theoretical research that has been carried out throughout the more than century-old history of the UNWE.
