Universidades federais mineiras: análise da produção de pesquisa científica e conhecimento no contexto do sistema mineiro de inovação [Federal universities in the state of Minas Gerais: analysis of scientific research production and knowledge within the context of the innovation system in Minas Gerais]
In this study we mapped out the main features of the allocation of resources focused on academic research and higher education in the federal universities in Minas Gerais. This characterization was carried out using data from such institutions assigned by the Ministry of Education, as well as information obtained through the directories of research groups of the National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq). Not surprisingly, the Federal University of Minas Gerais appears as a leading actor among the federal universities in Minas Gerais, and it is the main recipient of funds and a leader in scientific production and higher education. Based on the observed characteristics, there are several questions that seek to advance the broader debate about the allocation of public spending on higher education and academic research in Brazil.
