Abstract

Vietnam is a coastal country with great potential as well as a long history of development in the marine economy. The sea holds great potential for Vietnam’s socio-economic development, notably the advantages of favorable geographical position and richness of mineral resources (especially oil, gas, coal, and salt). However, Vietnam’s marine economy has not really developed in accordance with its demands and its inherent potential. This study analyzes the status quo of Vietnam’s marine economic development recently. Then, the authors clarify the results, limitations as well as causes of the limitations in the Vietnam’s marine economic development. A range of recommendations for promoting sustainable development of Vietnam’s marine economy in the process of international economic integration are proposed.Â
