Abstract

Businesses are a key element in the economic development of a country; they are a large source of employment and act as agents of economic development in a community. Family businesses are the predominant type of companies around the world. They are linked to our economic and social life. They have their own identity, and same characteristics as any other business. The difference from a family-owned business and others business is relations with a family or a family group, who has a direct influence on the direction and control of the business. The purpose of this paper is to provide the reader with the initial results of the Assessment of Family Businesses in Guadalupe Victoria belonging to the Mexicali Valley, México, and determine the governing structure that prevails in the family-owned business in the region. The objective is to assist the family-owned business to crystallize their vision into action. The governing structure involving the three subsystems of the family business, property, family and business, are examined.
