Efectos reales de impulsos tecnológicos: el caso de Puerto Rico/Real effects of technology shocks: The case of Puerto Rico

Abstract

Este trabajo estudia los efectos de impulsos tecnológicos reflejados en cambios anticipados y no anticipados en la productividad factorial total sobre las fluctuaciones macroeconómicas en Puerto Rico. Con estos fines, se emplean técnicas bayesianas para estimar los parámetros del proceso tecnológico de un modelo de equilibrio general dinámico y estocástico de la familia de modelos de Ciclos Económicos Reales de Hansen (1985) con datos macroeconómicos de Puerto Rico. Se halla que los impulsos tecnológicos en la Isla tienen efectos amplificadores sobre la producción y las horas de trabajo, pues impulsos de pequeña o moderada magnitud resultan en fluctuaciones de mayor magnitud en estas variables. Por otro lado, se estima que el paso del Huracán María resultó en una reducción de 4.2 puntos porcentuales en la productividad factorial total en el cuarto trimestre de 2017, el cual está asociado con contracciones de hasta 9 puntos porcentuales en la producción y de 7 puntos porcentuales en las horas de trabajo en el mismo periodo.
