Abstract

This article discusses gender economic inequality in the Basque Country using labour market analysis. First, it presents a classic approach to labour market dynamics through basic indicators (activity, occupation, unemployment and inactivity rates), and an analysis of occupational segregation and employment precariousness. Second, it addresses income inequality moving beyond wage differentials to consider retirement pensions crucial for wellbeing at a particularly vulnerable part of the life cycle. The analysis finishes with an evaluation of a composed gender index, the Gender Equity Index widely used in the European Union.
