Abstract

This article analyses the Cluster of Knowledge in Entrepreneurial Management in the Basque Country. It then advances in the design of a study methodology of its economic and institutional reality, in the form of evaluation of its main strengths and weaknesses, and in the identification of the degree of advance experienced with respect to the diagnosis initially carried out in 1996. It is for this reason that we apply the Porter methodology in cluster analysis. The main conclusions of all this are that in order to understand the economic and institutional reality of Cluster Knowledge in Management it is necessary to study a wider Cluster: the Cluster of Education and Creation of Knowledge. The strengths and weaknesses of the former are related to the strengths and weaknesses of the innovation system to which it is interconnected. This is illustrated by means of a study of the university sector in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. The improvement of the afore-mentioned cluster makes it necessary to transcend the strict analysis of its components and interrelationships, and widen the area to be analysed to include the two previous levels and to approach, in a consistent manner, new levels of dialogue and interaction.
