Abstract

This article offers a comparative analysis of the economic and financial situation of Basque manufacturing companies as compared to those of a set of countries in the European Community, Japan and the USA. Two years have been taken as a reference period in the study; 1993, the year in which the recessive economic cycle reached its turning point, and 1998, the last year with joint economic and financial data available for this era of expansion. The comparative international analysis has been carried out for the whole of the manufacturing industry and also for strata of various sizes in the companies.
