Abstract

The present article analyzes the role played by the service sector into the economic and industrial policy at regional level. Producer services stand out as an strategic factor of this policy, being essential for the proper development of productiva activities. The autor raises the convenience of aids on promotion, management andlor attendance of services to firms. In relation to the Basque Country, this objective shouldfocus on trying to overcome the absence of coordination of the incentivo mechanisms implemented by the Foral Administration and the Basque Government, giving them the unity of action they ha ve lack until now. The stimulus and the initiative of firms receiving the aids are essential, being also necessary to achieve an adequate interaction and complementarity with the private service sector. This article undertakes some specific proposals in the mentioned directions; it emphasizes the necessity of diffusing the processes of management and technological innovation to the tradicional small and medium sized enterprises (SMES) and proposes the encouragement of industrial diversification and the development of future sectors.
