Abstract

Some 130 provisions were adopted by the EEC in 1989 in this field, although modest in quantitative terms if these are compared to the several thousand resolutions approved by the EEC during its relatively short existence. Despite the fact that considerable progress has been made, the impression exists that perhaps community environmental planning has not resolved the problems which exist at a European leves to the extent which might be wished, such as the very tangible problems which arise from the contamination which exists across borders, the so-called acid rain which falls on wide areas of forests, or that which affects large rivers and seas, the most important of these being the Rhine and the Mediterranean.
