Abstract

This article reveals the conflict in which an economy which currently wishes to pay attention to the "environment" or making development "sustainable" is involved, without reviewing the limitations offered by its conceptual mechanics. After rationalising these subjects, the article presents the theoretical coordinates on which the rethinking and economic measures which could satisfy the new demands might be based. Although the social, political and institutional problems which such a rethinking would involve are not concealed, it is considered that an analysis of these would go beyond the limits of this article.
