Abstract

The dominant position of services in production and employment in all developed economies is today unquestionable. The term «services», however, covers a wide array of activities not all of which follow the same growth patterns. In light of this diversity, the author of the article examines the outlook of services as a factor for economic growth and generation of employment. Also analysed are the reasons for the drop in consumption of final services in post-industrial societies and for the growth in producer services. Finally, the author offers suggestions for promoting the consumption of services so as to generate new jobs in the tertiary sector.
