Abstract

Este artigo revisou a agricultura brasileira no contexto de uma maior “prioridade”para a produção de alimentos, produtos exportáveis e energéticos, bem como da recessão econômicaa partir de 1981. Indicámos que a recessão teve um papel fundamental na diminuiçãoda procura de alimentos, ao mesmo tempo que contribuiu para uma forte descida dos preçosreais. Isto parece ser importante em termos de metas de produção de culturas energéticas, depolíticas cambiais e comerciais e de uma possível recuperação da economia mundial. Alémdisso, os efeitos negativos da expansão das culturas energéticas sobre a produção de alimentosconstituem um dos problemas distributivos do programa energético brasileiro.
