A taxa de câmbio de equilíbrio industrial em 2000: uma estimativa

Abstract

Este artigo apresenta uma metodologia para o cálculo da taxa de câmbio de equilíbrio industrial, definida como aquela que permite que os exportadores de manufaturados de última geração sejam competitivos no exterior. A primeira seção destaca as causas e os problemas das taxas de câmbio supervalorizadas, particularmente a questão da doença holandesa, que é neutralizada quando a taxa de câmbio atinge o nível de equilíbrio industrial. Esse nível é definido pela razão entre o custo unitário do trabalho no país em questão e nos países concorrentes. Por fim, estima-se a evolução dessa taxa de câmbio na economia brasileira.
