Impacto de Movimientos Cambiarios en el Comercio Exterior

Abstract

En un contexto externo de caída en los términos de intercambio desde 2011 que se aceleró sobre todo en 2014, muchas economías registraron fuertes devaluaciones con el fin de mejorar su competitividad. En este marco, el presente trabajo busca analizar a través de diversas técnicas estadísticas el impacto de variaciones en el tipo de cambio real sobre el comercio exterior utilizando los enfoques de la condición Marshall-Lerner, y las curvas “S” y “J” acorde a la literatura y experiencia empírica internacional para el caso de Bolivia. Los principales resultados muestran que, debido a que un porcentaje significativo de las exportaciones que no responden al tipo de cambio real (efecto precio), la condición Marshall-Lerner no se cumple para el caso boliviano, aspecto que es corroborado a través de la estimación de la Curva ”J” y el cálculo de la Curva “S”, que expresan que la balanza comercial no muestra una mejora significativa ante una depreciación real. De la misma manera, se encuentra que el efecto ingreso es el más importante al momento de analizar los determinantes de las demandas de exportaciones e importaciones.
