Abstract

Clarifying the relationship between ecological compensation, financial support, and rural revitalization is of significant importance for achieving rural revitalization. This study, based on panel data from 31 provincial-level administrative regions (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, excluding Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan) in China from 2009 to 2023, empirically analyzes the impact of ecological compensation and financial support on rural revitalization using a fixed effects model. The research finds that both ecological compensation and financial support can significantly promote rural revitalization; financial support plays a notable moderating role in the relationship between ecological compensation and rural revitalization; and the impacts of ecological compensation and financial support on rural revitalization exhibit heterogeneity between areas with high and low levels of population aging.
