Abstract

This paper predicts the existence of stable fractional vortex soliton (FVS) featuring an opening gap in the intensity ring with fractional angular momentum in defocusing cubic nonlinear media with a ring-shaped potential. Linear stability analysis and direct simulations show that multi-order FVSs belonging to two branches are stable in their whole existence domain. The intensity pattern and angular momentum of FVS are variable with the propagating constant. Specifically, the phase distributions of the FVSs can exhibit on-axis singularity with the dislocation confined to the vortex ring, or undergo off-axis singularity transitions from the outside to the inside of the ring, resulting in clockwise or counterclockwise beam rotations in the presence of background light.
