Multivariable state tracking control for uncertain reference model with application to leader–follower consensus problem

Abstract

This paper investigates three model reference adaptive control strategies for multivariable systems via state feedback, output feedback, and partial state feedback methods. Both the considered controlled plant and reference model are affected by the uncertain parameters and external disturbances. The reference state is used as the desired trajectory to be tracked by the controlled system. Unlike the traditional model reference adaptive control method, the tracked model is not stable, and the presented adaptive controller depends on the reference state and reference input rather than only the reference input. In accordance with the parameterization technique and matrix decomposition technique, three model reference adaptive controller designs are developed by using different feedback signals. The proposed strategies are able to resist the impact of the external disturbances and guarantee state tracking. Finally, a simulation of a linearized unmanned aerial vehicle model and a simulation of a lateral vehicle dynamic model are provided to demonstrate the feasibility of three adaptive feedback control schemes.
