Abstract

This study is based on the premise that graduates of the 21st century must combine academic training with digital literacy. Communication and teamwork skills are formative and essential components of authentic learning. The purpose of this research is to identify the educational value of students’ creation of educational podcasts. A descriptive research strategy was adopted to better understand the formative value of podcast creation by students. Throughout one academic semester, students were required to design, edit, and present an educational podcast while collaborating to complete the task. To evaluate the podcasts, formative aspects related to the following competencies were analyzed: documentation and use of sources, cognitive and socio-emotional skills, collaboration, and technical skills. The results indicate that the use of podcasts as a pedagogical tool has significant educational value in student learning; therefore, their integration into teaching, learning, and assessment activities is recommended.
