Abstract

Focusing on the assessment of acquired skills, recently introduced in primary schools in Algeria, our study aims to clarify the skills assessed in French as a foreign language, to determine the tools used to study their validity and to identify the limits of this form of assessment. The interview with a primary school teacher, supported by an analysis of the tests, revealed that oral proficiency, comprehension and written production - assessed in accordance with the instructions - present validity problems. A valid assessment of learners' actual skills, both oral and written, requires the use of assessment situations that comply with theoretical requirements.
