Grandes empresas y grupos industriales latinoamericanos

Abstract

Este artículo busca sintetizar los resultados de algunos estudios sobre la estructura y dinámica de los GGE en cinco países latinoamericanos (Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Chile y México); y presentar elementos complementarios para ubicarlos en una perspectiva de conjunto. Tales estudios incluyen análisis individualizados de 46 empresas líderes (Brasil, Colombia y Chile); y 15 grupos económicos de base industrial (Brasil y México);, así como análisis agregados sobre esos grupos en Argentina, Brasil y México. En todos los casos, los análisis se basaron en entrevistas realizadas especialmente, revisión de información estadística y documental, y utilización de información procesada previamente en la literatura sobre el tema. El alcance temporal de los estudios va desde la constitución de algunos GGE a comienzos de siglo o durante el auge de la industrialización por sustitución de importaciones (ISI); hasta los cambios en curso en la segunda mitad de los años noventa. El análisis se centra en la última década, es decir, desde el momento en que se acentúan los procesos de reforma estructural en la mayoría de los países cuyos GGE son objeto de estudio. El artículo tiene cuatro secciones. Después de la introducción (sección I);, se presentan algunos hechos estilizados sobre el contexto de la acción empresarial en los cinco países examinados (sección II);; en seguida se analizan los principales rasgos estructurales de los GGE y su dinámica reciente a nivel de empresa, planta y grupo (sección III);, y se concluye señalando los principales desafíos que demandarían la acción de las políticas públicas, así como las posiciones en el debate actual sobre ellas (sección IV);.
