Ausbau von Kernkraftwerken entbehrt technischer und ökonomischer Grundlagen

Abstract

In Deutschland gehen die letzten drei Kernkraftwerke Mitte April endgültig vom Netz. Die Energiekrise infolge des russischen Angriffskriegs in der Ukraine hat allerdings auch hierzulande Forderungen nach dem Bau neuer Kernreaktoren angeheizt. Eine ähnliche Debatte wird im Kontext der Klimakrise auch international geführt. Atomenergie war aber schon seit den 1950er Jahren eine der teuersten Energiequellen und ist dies bis heute. Zudem ist sie keine zeitnahe Lösung, da der Bau der Reaktoren Jahrzehnte dauert. Auch technisch ist kein signifikanter Durchbruch zu wettbewerblichen Reaktoren absehbar. Dies gilt sowohl für SMR (Small Modular Reactor)-Konzepte mit geringer Leistung als auch für andere, wie zum Beispiel schnelle Brutreaktoren. Diese Erkenntnis setzt sich inzwischen auch in Fachkreisen der Energiesystemmodellierung durch, in denen bisher aufgrund überoptimistischer Annahmen stets ein wesentlicher Anteil an Atomenergie vorhergesagt und erneuerbare Energien vernachlässigt wurden.
