Grüne und AfD als neue Gegenpole der gesellschaftlichen Spaltung in Deutschland

Abstract

Die Europawahl 2019 hat in Deutschland markante regionale Unterschiede im Wahlverhalten aufgezeigt. Im Vergleich zur Bundestagswahl verzeichnen vor allem die Grünen starke Stimmengewinne in westdeutschen Kreisen, während die AfD ihren Erfolg in den ostdeutschen Kreisen konsolidieren kann. Dieser Wochenbericht untersucht auf Kreisebene, welche strukturellen Faktoren das Abschneiden der beiden Parteien bei der Europawahl erklären. Der Zuspruch für die Grünen ist in wirtschaftlich starken, demografisch jungen und dynamischen sowie wirtschaftsstrukturell soliden Kreisen hoch. Dagegen schneidet die AfD in Kreisen gut ab, die wirtschaftlich schwächer und verwundbarer sind und unter Abwanderung leiden. Die Stärke sowohl von Grünen als auch AfD ist dabei weniger durch aktuelle wirtschaftliche Entwicklungen, sondern mehr durch strukturelle und demografische Faktoren geprägt. Grüne und AfD stellen somit nicht nur auf der politischen Bühne Gegenpole dar, ihre Ergebnisse bei der Europawahl spiegeln auch die gesellschaftliche Spaltung Deutschlands auf regionaler Ebene wider.
