Fußgänger- und Fahrradverkehr gewinnen an Bedeutung

Abstract

Im Jahr 2004 legte jeder Einwohner in Deutschland - ohne Flugreisen - durchschnittlich 12 740 km zurück, davon 10 800 km im Auto, 1 100 km in Bus und Bahn, 370 km auf dem Fahrrad und 470 km zu Fuß. An der Wegstrecke gemessen dominiert also das Auto den Personenverkehr. Auf die Zahl der Wege bezogen, ändern sich die Relationen. Fast jeder dritte Weg wird zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad unternommen. Im Zuge des demographischen Wandels wird die Bedeutung des nichtmotorisierten Verkehrs eher noch steigen. Die Einrichtungen und Rahmenbedingungen für den Fußgänger- und Fahrradverkehr sollten daher insbesondere in den Städten weiter verbessert werden.
