Abstract

The police profession needs to be updated to meet the changes and the police officers must adapt themselves to achieve an appropriate performance; to achieve this, there are spaces for education, training and coaching led by the Police Education Directorate. This article proposes a methodology for the updating of academic programs of the Colombian National Police from the field of intelligence. The methodology is qualitative and was designed based on Kline and Rosenberg's innovation model in three phases: a documentary phase to establish the training needs and competencies of police education, as well as the good pedagogical practices and the existing and available didactic strategies. The second, empirical phase involved the collection of information on training needs from the labor perspective and a final phase of validation and design in which the methodology for updating academic programs in the Colombian National Police was constructed. The main results include the occupational profile of the positions of data collector and intelligence analyst, as well as the methodology for the updating of academic programs, from which it is concluded that competencies are key and transversal elements in the processes of linkage, training and execution of the academic programs.
