El índice de malestar económico o índice de miseria de Okun: breve análisis de casos, 2001-2008

Abstract

En el artículo se estudia el denominado misery index para un total de 45 países del mundo durante el periodo comprendido entre 2001 y 2008. Así mismo, se considera el caso de 12 ciudades en Colombia. Utilizando rudimentos no complejos de econometría, se efectúa una aproximación empírica a la hipótesis de difusión de la pobreza o miseria y, posteriormente se analiza su capacidad de histéresis. El trabajo concluye advirtiendo que el indicador constituye una medida socioeconómica que además de aportar a la evaluación del éxito o fracaso en términos de política, también permite monitorear, junto con otros datos estadísticos, el problema de la pobreza y la miseria.
