Diferencias étnicas en Colombia: una mirada antropométrica

Abstract

En este trabajo estudiamos la evolución de la estatura de los colombianos nacidos entre 1946 y 1992. El análisis se realiza para los principales grupos étnicos del país y con este fin utilizamos una muestra de la Encuesta Nacional de Demografía y Salud y de la Encuesta Nacional de la Situación Nutricional (ENDS-ENSIN) del 2010. Entre los principales resultados se encuentra que existe una diferencia significativa según la clasificación étnica: quienes se autoreconocieron como afrodescendientes tienen, en promedio estaturas mayores que los pertenecientes al grupo de indígenas y mayores que las de quienes no se identifican con ninguno de dichos grupos étnicos. No obstante, la brecha entre los afrocolombianos y aquellos no pertenecientes a las etnias estudiadas es cada vez menor en el tiempo. Asimismo, se verificó que el sexo, las condiciones de vida y el grupo generacional de los individuos son factores importantes que determinan la talla en la edad adulta. Como observación adicional se estableció que el grupo de indígenas presenta un mayor potencial de crecimiento en cuanto al bienestar biológico cuando mejoran sus condiciones de vida.
