La Demanda Por Medios De Pago, Efectivo Y Depositos En Cuenta Corriente: 1967-1986

Abstract

Se utilizan cifras trimestrales para estimar funciones de demanda por efectivo, depósitos en cuenta corriente y medios de pago para el período 1967-1986. Se detecta un cambio estructural en la demanda de efectivo en 1974, cambio que aumentó la elacticidad ingreso y disminuyó la elasticidad de la tasa de interés. Tal variación hizo que a la par que aumentaba la elasticidad ingreso, dismunuía la demanda de efectivo. Este resultado no había sido reportado por anteriores estudios; en este ofrecemos una explicación tentativa. Adicionalmente se utilizan las ecuaciones estimadas para proyectar el primer trimestre de 1988; se muestra que en dicho perídoo hay en exceso de demanda por efectivo y un defecto de demanda por depósitos en cuenta corriente, fenómenos probablemente originados en la reforma tributaria expedida al finalizar 1987.
