La automatización del empleo en México y sus efectos sobre las disparidades salariales

Abstract

Las nuevas tecnologías reconfiguran la economía mundial y los mercados laborales. Este artículo estudia los impactos del riesgo de automatización del empleo sobre las brechas salariales en México. Con datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Ocupación y Empleo de 2024, se aplica el método de descomposición Oaxaca-Blinder, corrigiendo el sesgo de selección muestral, para estimar los efectos de la probabilidad de automatización sobre los salarios. Se evidencian impactos negativos de la automatización sobre los sueldos, los cuales afectan, especialmente, a los trabajadores menos calificados. Dada la especialización del capital humano a nivel regional, el Centro y el Sur del país enfrentan las mayores brechas salariales, explicables por las diferencias observables entre sus trabajadores. El Norte, el Noroeste y el Occidente del país enfrentan los mayores efectos de la probabilidad de automatización sobre la discriminación salarial. Se concluye que la escolaridad tiene una función estratégica para reducir las brechas salariales, asociadas al riesgo de la automatización del empleo.
