Abstract

Der Artikel untersucht die Nachfrage privater Haushalte nach ökonomischen Narrativen und erforscht deren Einfluss auf die Erwartungen und Entscheidungen von Haushalten. Basis der Untersuchung bildet ein Experiment innerhalb einer repräsentativen Stichprobe US-amerikanischer Haushalte, in dem die Teilnehmenden eine Erklärung der hohen Wahrscheinlichkeit einer US-Rezession für das Jahr 2024 kaufen können. Die Teilnehmenden des Experiments geben reales Geld für den Erwerb von Erklärungen von führenden US-amerikanischen Ökonom*innen aus, die zuvor im Rahmen einer Expertenumfrage erhoben wurden. Im Mittel sind Haushalte bereit, mehr als 4 US‑Dollar für eine Expertenerklärung zu bezahlen – und damit mehr als für die numerische Rezessionsprognose der New York Federal Reserve.
