A comment on the Ifo Business Climate in wholesaling

Abstract

Since 1951 the Ifo Institute has carried out its business survey also in wholesaling. The responses of the surveyed wholesalers form a portion of the Ifo Business Climate Index for industry and trade. A comparison of the course of the business climate in wholesaling with the time series of the official statistics confirms that the Ifo Business Climate is a suitable indicator for cyclical developments in wholesaling. It has a "publication lead", it is published in a timelier fashion and is not subsequently revised.
