Corporate disability management - a better disability insurance protection

Abstract

In future employers will be obligated to provide disability management for employees who were unable to work for longer than six weeks - repeatedly or at one time - during the course of a year. The intention is to preclude further disability, provide incentives for company prevention schemes and to safeguard jobs. Stefan Bornemann, University of Munich (LMU), analyses the new regulation from viewpoint of human capital theory. He shows that it will lead to a rise in non-wage labour costs, so that especially for jobs with basic qualifications an undesired drop in labour demand must be expected
