Wanderungen von und nach Ostdeutschland

Abstract

Im jüngsten Jahresbericht der Bundesregierung zum Stand der deutschen Einheit wird festgestellt, dass der Binnenwanderungssaldo zwischen Ost- und Westdeutschland inzwischen beinahe ausgeglichen ist. In diesem Beitrag wird untersucht, wie sich Zu- und Fortzüge nach Ostdeutschland in den vergangenen Jahren entwickelt haben. Dabei zeigt es sich, dass der Rückgang der Wanderungssalden der ostdeutschen Länder seit Beginn des letzten Jahrzehnts vor allem durch verringerte Fortzüge bedingt ist; erst seit etwa 2008 haben auch die Zuzüge in die neuen Länder wieder leicht zugenommen. Eine genauere Analyse zeigt jedoch, dass von der positiven Wanderungsentwicklung nicht alle ostdeutschen Länder in gleicher Weise profitieren können. Zudem ist die Altersstruktur der Wanderungen nach wie vor bedenklich, da insbesondere bei jungen Erwerbsfähigen vielfach auch weiterhin ein negativer Binnenwanderungssaldo besteht.
