Spatial knowledge spillovers and regional productivity growth in Europe

Abstract

L?objectif de cet article est d?étudier, sur la période 1980 à 1992, les effets qu?ont eu les spillovers des connaissances technologiques, à différents niveaux territoriaux (local, national et international), sur la dynamique de la productivité du travail dans les industries manufacturières des régions européennes. En particulier, l?utilisation d?une version modifiée de l?équation catching-up et d?une version élargie de la base de données REGIO, a permis d?évaluer de façon empirique la propension des spillovers des connaissances à expliquer la croissance de la productivité du travail dans les entreprises localisées dans les différentes régions européennes. On analyse l?éventuel trade-off entre la pression locale (concernant le transfert de connaissances tacites) et la pression globale (concernant la diffusion de connaissances entièrement codifiées) en tant que déterminants possibles de la croissance de la productivité manufacturière au niveau régional en Europe, sur la période 1980 à 1992.
