Politiques de subventions aux engrais au Burkina Faso : une comparaison des impacts par mode de financement à l’aide d’un modèle d’équilibre général calculable

Abstract

Since 2008, Burkina Faso has been committed to an extensive program of spending on subsidies for agricultural inputs and equipment to increase agricultural productivity and reduce poverty. However, the country has limited fiscal space. This study uses a computable general equilibrium model coupled with a microsimulation model to assess the impacts of the subsidy policy on agricultural production and poverty, under three funding modalities. We find that the subsidy policy is beneficial to agricultural growth and poverty reduction. We find that financing the subsidy through corporate income taxes further reduces poverty among rural households.
