International Migration As An Object Of Research In International Relations

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to introduce international migration as an important subject of international politics and international relations. The article answers the question of how the main theoretical concepts of international relations view international migration. In this context, migration stands out as an important phenomenon with an impact on the formation of foreign policy and relations between states, or between a state and an international organization. The text also aims to introduce one of the current concepts of migration, which focuses on security. The notion of security in the context of international migration appears in the literature especially after the terrorist attacks in the USA in 2001; it is currently present in political discourses and dominates in the statements of the Slovak political elite.
