El impacto de la sequía en la producción agrícola española

Abstract

Motivación La intensidad y frecuencia de eventos meteorológicos extremos podrían verse exacerbadas a raíz del cambio climático, condicionando con mayor intensidad los rendimientos de la producción agrícola. El presente artículo analiza los efectos de la sequía sobre la producción de un grupo de cultivos relevantes para la agricultura española. Ideas principales •Se utiliza información climatológica granular y de producción y superficies agrícolas a nivel provincial durante el período 2000-2023 para estimar la relación entre la sequía y los rendimientos agrícolas de diversos cultivos en España. •De acuerdo con los resultados obtenidos, el impacto adverso de la escasez de agua sobre los rendimientos agrícolas es heterogéneo por tipo de cultivo. En concreto, se encuentra que dicho impacto es mayor en el trigo, la cebada y el olivar (cultivos mayormente de secano) que en el naranjo y el maíz (cultivos donde predomina el regadío). •En España, 2022 y 2023 destacaron por la ocurrencia de períodos prolongados de escasez de agua. Ello habría reducido entre un 20 % y un 30 %, en promedio, los rendimientos del trigo y la cebada, y al menos un 10 % los del olivar.
