Ailenin Yoksulluğu/Zenginliği İle Eğitim/Akademik Başarı Arasındaki İlişki: PISA 2015 Verileri İle Ampirik Bir Çalışma

Abstract

Yoksulluk; bir bireyin ekonomik, kültürel ve sosyal sermayeden yoksun olması biçiminde tanımlanabilir. Ailenin yoksul olması, yetişkinleri de olumsuz etkilemekle birlikte en çok çocukları olumsuz etkilemektedir. Ailenin yoksulluğu, öğrencilerin eğitimlerinin yarıda kalmasına ve/veya akademik başarılarının düşmesine yol açmaktadır. Mevcut çalışmanın iki amacı vardır. Birinci amacı, ailenin yoksulluğu/zenginliği ile eğitim arasındaki ilişkiyi bazı değişkenler açısından literatür taraması yoluyla ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın ikinci amacı ise uluslararası bir değerlendirme programı olan PISA (Uluslararası Öğrenci Değerlendirme Programı) öğrenci anketinde yer alan ailenin zenginliği (family wealth) indeksinin Türk öğrencilerin fen ve matematik okuryazarlığı ile okuma beceri puanlarını ne ölçüde yordadığını basit doğrusal regresyon analizi yoluyla belirlemektir. Araştırmada ailenin zenginliği ile öğrencilerin fen, matematik okuryazarlığı ve okuma becerileri puanları arasında pozitif manidar bir ilişki olduğu ve ailenin zenginliğinin öğrencilerin akademik başarılarını anlamlı bir şekilde yordadığı bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır. Bir başka ifadeyle, ailenin yoksulluğu arttıkça öğrencilerin akademik başarılarının düşme eğilimi gösterdiği savunulabilir. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgular literatürdeki mevcut bulgularla tartışılmış ve elde edilen bulgulara dayalı olarak öneriler ortaya konulmuştur.
