Un siglo de vidrio francés: Saint Gobain en España, de 1905 a la actualidad

Abstract

Este artículo analiza la trayectoria en España de la empresa francesa Saint Gobain, dedicada a la producción de vidrio y otros materiales de construcción. Desde que en 1905 fundara su primera y más importante filial industrial en España (Cristalería Española S.A.), la multinacional francesa experimentó un proceso de crecimiento apenas interrumpido a este lado de los Pirineos. Apostó por llevar a cabo grandes inversiones, confiando en el potencial de desarrollo de la economía española, y se afanó en estrechar los vínculos con los políticos y hombres de negocios del momento, fuera cual fuera su orientación ideológica. Marcas como «Duralex», «Climalit» o «Securit» atestiguan la importancia de Saint Gobain en la industria y en la vida cotidiana de los españoles. KEY Classification-JEL: IF23. G34. D85. L61.
