Evolución del nivel de vida biológico en la Comunidad Valenciana, 1840-1969

Abstract

Con datos de estatura de los quintos alistados, este artículo analiza la tendencia secular de la estatura media en la Comunidad Valenciana de las generaciones nacidas entre 1840 y 1969. Su análisis permite explorar la evolución del nivel de vida biológico de los valencianos entre mediados del siglo xix y xx . Los resultados muestran que en el largo plazo la talla y las condiciones de vida biológicas mejoraron para el conjunto de las poblaciones valencianas. No obstante, un análisis detallado revela que el bienestar biológico no siguió una tendencia sostenida de crecimiento en el tiempo, pues estuvo sometida a varios períodos de deterioro: durante el tercer cuarto del siglo xix , entre las cohortes de 1865 y 1880, en los albores de la modernización económica regional, y durante los reemplazos de la autarquía franquista (cohortes de 1918 a 1928).
