Abstract

Ecological aspects of birds in and around of Karun River islands were conducted during April to September 2014. Data collection was made every month during study period. This study assessed the species composition relative abundance and species diversity of avifauna found in terrestrial habitats and water body at around of Islands. A total of 57 species, 28 families and 12 orders were identified. Family Ardeidae had the highest number of bird species (six species) followed by Ploceidae and Columbidae (five species each), Sylvidae (four species) Meropidae, and Apudidae (three species each) and other family one species each. Terrestrial habitat of islands had the high species number, abundance and diversity compared to aquatic habitat. Shannon’s diversity index indicated that terrestrial habitat had higher species diversity (H’=2.2745) than aquatic habitat (H’=2.2379).
