Abstract

This research survey used checklists to survey the environment of shallow well and to determine the quality of the water in these well and in containers used to store the water by considering physical, chemical, and biological characteristics. A cross-sectional survey was used to collect data. Descriptive statistics including percentage and average were used for analysis. The results showed that the environment around the well was at risk from bacteria and most of water containers were at risk from fecal coliform bacteria due to the presence of livestock, garbage, and wastewater within 30 matre of the well. The quality of the drinking water was a powerful environmental determinant of health. Assurance of drinking-water safety was identified as a foundation for the prevention and control of waterborne diseases.
