Synthesis and Characterization of Nanoporous Hydroxyapatite with High Hemocompatibility

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite with nanoporous structure is a valuable biomaterial to enhance the efficiency of adsorption based biomedical applications, i.e., drug delivery and protein adsorption. In this study, nanoporous hydroxyapatite was synthesized by using hydrothermal technique. Decyltrimethylammonium bromide (C10TAB) surfactant was used as template for the formation of nanoporous structure in the hydroxyapatite. The presence of pure hydroxyapatite phase in the synthesized samples is verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
