Abstract

Re-expansion pulmonary edema (RPE) is a rare but serious complication associated with rapid drainage of air or fluid from the pleural cavity, often following procedures such as thoracentesis or tube thoracostomy. Despite its low reported incidence, RPE can lead to complications ranging from hypoxia to cardiorespiratory collapse, even in otherwise healthy individuals.
