Abstract

The programmed cell death (PD-1) receptor and its ligand (PDL1) are involved in an important immune checkpoint that helps keep the body›s immune responses in check [1]. Cancer cells can express PD-L1 and PD-L2, which can inhibit immune-modulatory T-cell activation and facilitate disease progression by targeting the PD-1 receptor [2-4]; thus, blocking either PD-1 or PD-L1 can prevent PD-1 activation, attenuating the immune tolerance and improving T cell-mediated killing of cancer cells [5,6].
