Abstract

Ketoacidosis is a severe metabolic decompensation of diabetes characterized by hyperglycaemia that can vary from 11mmol/l to extreme values, an arterial pH below 7.3, a plasma bicarbonate level below 15mmol/l and ketonemia or ketonuria. It is an acute complication of diabetes that has become common in elderly diabetics with a still poor prognosis
