Abstract

Neonatal bacterial infection is diagnosed when the acute phase reactants score (APR-Sc) is positive for 3 items of CRP, α1-acid glycoprotein (AGP), and haptoglobin (Hp), and 2 points are positive for 2 items, CRP and AGP. However, the mechanism by which the presence or absence of an increase in Hp, which is the difference between the 3 points and the 2 points, is not known.
